The first day of the Ranji Trophy saw some impressive bowling performances, headlined by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Shahbaz Nadeem.
In Group A, Hitesh Walunj’s 4 wickets dismantled Saurashtra for 202 before Jadeja’s 4-fer reduced Maharashtra to 116/7. Jharkhand’s Nadeem bagged a stunning 5-wicket haul to bowl out Manipur for just 170. Jharkhand ended day 1 on 96/1 thanks to Utkarsh Singh’s unbeaten 50.
Rajasthan also had a strong start courtesy fifties from Salman Khan and Deepak Hooda powering them to 277/5 against Vidarbha. Haryana restricted Services to 72/7 as Aman Kumar picked up 4 wickets.
Group B saw mammoth centuries from Aryan Juyal and Karan Sharma guide Uttar Pradesh to 319/2 versus Assam. Half-centuries from Shivam Dube, Tanush Kotian and Suyansh Shedge led Mumbai’s revival from 87/4 to 330/6 against Bengal.
Kerala ended day 1 on 219/4 leaning on fifties from Rohan Prem, Sanju Samson and Sachin Baby. Andhra bundled out Bihar for 182 as Girinath Reddy grabbed 5 wickets.
In Group C, Suyash Prabhudessai’s century took Goa to 241 before Sai Kishore’s 4 wickets restricted them. Punjab powered to 307/2 thanks to Anmolpreet Singh’s unbeaten 132.
