Prithviraj Sukumaran, the Malayalam superstar, is currently working on his third directorial venture, starring Mohanlal as the lead. Titled L2: Empuraan, this film created quite a buzz due to its unexpected twists and turns. Being labeled as the most costly Malayalam movie ever filmed, with scenes shot in the US and the UK, it has become one of the most eagerly awaited projects. However, Prithviraj urges fans to anticipate a completely unique experience compared to his previous 2019 film, Lucifer.
Empuraan, penned by Murali Gopy, is the second chapter in the Lucifer series. It features the iconic personas of Mohanlal’s Stephen Nedumpally, aka Khureshi Abram, along with Prithviraj’s Zayed Masood, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, and Indrajith Sukumaran reprising their respective roles. During a recent interview with the media, Prithviraj disclosed details about what audiences can anticipate from the upcoming movie. Although certain scenes from the filming locations in Ladakh, Atlanta, and New York, USA have been leaked, it is evident that the film will prominently feature Mohanlal as Khureshi Abram.
The director assured fans that they should not anticipate Mohanlal appearing in traditional attire and engaging in violent confrontations in an abandoned factory, as seen in Lucifer’s ‘mass’ action scene. Stephen’s unexpected behavior in the movie surprises his associates. Prithviraj, who received criticism for incorporating a special song in Lucifer, hinted that he might include a Bollywood-style end title song in the film. He expressed uncertainty about whether the movie he is creating will align with fans’ expectations for a Lucifer sequel. By the way, the closing song of Lucifer – Empuraan, performed by Usha Uthup, foreshadowed the title of the second installment and provided insight into Khureshi Abram’s backstory in the movie. This is the aspect that Empuraan will further explore.
