In a recent update, she accused others, not herself, of gaining financial advantages from the incident.
Poonam wrote, “Honestly, I am happy that my post managed to reach many people and make them aware of cervical cancer, which is what I only wanted to do. But what hurt me is that some people benefited monetarily and drove me into the cause pretext, but I will always stand by it and continue to lend my support now and forever. But rest is for you all to investigate that who made it commercial.” The actress-model’s post was received after she assured her social media followers that “The truth shall be revealed soon.” Despite this, many dismissed it as just another one of her dramas.
Poonam caused a stir on the internet on February 2nd by deceiving everyone with a post on her verified Instagram account, stating that she had succumbed to cervical cancer. Even her manager confirmed this tragic news to various news outlets, revealing that she had passed away at the young age of 32. However, just one day later, Poonam resurfaced on Instagram, confessing that she had orchestrated her own demise as a means to raise awareness about cervical cancer. In an Instagram video, she said, “I am alive. I didn’t die of cervical cancer. Unfortunately, I can’t say that about those hundreds and thousands of women who have lost their lives because of cervical cancer.” Her publicity stunt had a severe backlash, resulting in widespread outrage and online harassment.
