Netflix targeting Tollywood

Netflix, the undeniable giant in the streaming industry worldwide, has also established itself as the top streaming service in India. This is primarily due to its exceptional content quality and remarkable success rate, making it the preferred platform for movie lovers. However, the growing dominance of Netflix in the Tollywood industry has raised concerns among other streaming services. This streaming giant has recently started targeting Tollywood and has acquired the rights to many big movies.

Until recently, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar were the frontrunners in acquiring digital streaming rights for Telugu movies. However, Netflix’s sudden emergence has taken everyone by surprise. From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic until now, Netflix has demonstrated a methodical and gradual approach to securing the digital rights of Telugu films. However, they have devised a strategy and now assert dominance through substantial investments.

Currently, Netflix has a huge amount of big Telugu or popular movies like “Salaar,” “Animal,” and “Guntur Kaaram,” all of which were released on their platform in a relatively short period. The platform’s viewership and subscriber base are steadily growing. Previously, Amazon Prime Video had showcased a similar level of dominance, but it has now taken a backseat.

In a recent visit to Hyderabad, Netflix’s CEO personally met with the leading stars of the Telugu film industry. This is a strategic move to attract their films and steer them towards the Netflix platform. This strategy is proving to be successful.

Despite intense competition, Netflix has managed to secure the rights for movies like “Devara” and “Pushpa: The Rule.” Additionally, there are several other significant films currently on Netflix’s list. Overall, Netflix’s dominance in the Tollywood industry is a cause for concern among different streaming services as it continues to make significant strides and secure exclusive content.
