Munjya, the latest horror comedy, has made its digital debut. After the world television premiere on Star Gold, Munjya started streaming on Disney Plus Hot Star. However, it is not the first time that a Bollywood movie is making its digital debut after Television Premiere. Kabir Khan and Ranveer Singh’s 83 (2021) was also premiered on TV before it arrived on Netflix.
Munjya is one of the successful films for Bollywood this year. Interestingly, it is released on OTT after the mammoth success of Stree 2, the start film for Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Stree 2’s theatrical release and Munjya’s OTT release have a gap of 10 days. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya stars Abhay Verma and Sharvari in the lead roles while Mona Singh, Sathyaraj appeared in crucial characters. The film is the fourth one in Maddock Universe, produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik.
Based on Indian folklore, the film tells us the story of Bittu, who fights with a ghost named Munjya for his childhood friend Munni. Munjya was released in theaters worldwide on June 7, 2024, and received good reviews. The film collected 100 Crores net at the domestic box office, while the global earnings are over 130 Crores Gross.
