In general the artists who make their debut through Television Soap Opera and work there for years will not feature in films. Even if they try their luck most of them wouldn’t succeed. But it’s an exception for the charming Mrunal Thakur. She began her acting career with the television soap operas Mujhse Kuchh Kehti…Yeh Khamoshiyaan (2012) and Kumkum Bhagya (2014–2016). She won the Indian Television Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Kumkum Bhagya. Mrunal also played as the contestant for Nach Baliye an Indian Hindi-language celebrity dance reality television series that airs on Star Plus.
Mrunal made her film debut with the Marathi film Hello Nandan. After featuring in multiple Marathi movies she finally made her debut in Hindi with Love Sonia in 2018 but gained recognition with Super 30 and Batla House. Later Mrunal faced a rough ride with a series of commercial failures until she made her debut in Tollywood. Mrunal achieved success with the Telugu romantic drama Sita Ramam (2022), which won her two SIIMAs for Best Female Debut and Best Actress Critics. Mrunal Thakur featured as Princess Noor Jahan aka Sita Mahalakshmi alongside Dulquer Salman for which she gained appreciation for her performance and screen presence.
Post the success of Sita Ramam from Tollywood, Mrunal was on board for Nani Hi Nanna and Vijay Deverakonda Family Star movies. Going by the teaser cuts we can say that unlike in Hindi, Mrunal Thakur is selective in terms of selecting the scripts and prefers only performance oriented roles which attracts the family audience. Her upcoming film titled Hi Nanna alongside Nani under the direction of Shouryuv is slated to release on Dec 7th 2023.
