Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Gain New AI Feature: Landmark Recognition

Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses have received a new AI feature in beta – landmark recognition. This enhancement allows users to view information about landmarks they observe through the glasses.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced the new multimodal AI capability via the Meta Channel on Instagram. Users can now look at a landmark and request more details with a simple press of a button.

Meta has been consistently adding new AI capabilities to its Ray-Ban smart glasses. In December, the company enabled the glasses to recognize objects. However, these features are currently available only in the US as part of a beta program. Users interested in testing the latest multimodal features, including landmark recognition, can sign up for early access.

The second generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses was launched in 2023 with 150 custom frames and customizable lens options. These glasses feature improved speaker performance and an updated camera with a 12 MP sensor. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 Platform, the glasses offer enhanced processing for audio, photos, and videos.

Compared to the first-gen model, the latest Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are thinner and lighter, offering up to 36 hours of battery life (with the carry case). Additionally, they enable users to live stream on platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

Integration with Meta AI allows for a hands-free on-the-go experience, where users can summon the AI by saying “Hey Meta.” Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are currently available in select markets like the US and Europe, starting at $299.
