This year, the Malayalam film industry is experiencing tremendous success at the box office, with three major hits in just two months. One of these hits is “Manjummel Boys,” a survival thriller that crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark within 12 days of its release on February 22. The film has also crossed 5 Million USD and 20 Crores Gross in Tamil Nadu. Looking at the current trend, the trade circles expect the film to not stop its remarkable run at the box office. Meanwhile, the film’s OTT release rumors have been rising for a few days on social media.
This successful Malayalam film is set to premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar. Though the streaming date is not out yet, it is being reported that the film will be available on OTT in April, and it will not follow the regular gap of four weeks from theatrical release to OTT release. Additionally, other Malayalam movies like Naslen – Mamitha Baiju’s “Premalu” and Mammootty’s “Bramayugam” have also done exceptionally well this year. Tovino Thomas’ “Anweshippin Kandethum” has also earned respectable numbers, and it is scheduled to be available on Netflix from March 8.
Directed by Chidambaram, “Manjummel Boys” is based on a true story of a group of friends from Kerala who embark on a rescue mission after one of them falls into a deep cave in Guna Caves, Kodaikanal, in 2006. The film is getting released in Telugu states on March 15th.
