Ajay Devgn’s film “Maidaan” experienced a significant decline in box office collections on its second day following a disappointing first day. Despite expectations of increasing or maintaining the previous day’s performance, the film failed to do so. Competing with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” “Maidaan” fell behind in terms of box office numbers, particularly in major cities, which surprised many. Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews, the film struggled to draw in audiences, resulting in a 40% decrease in earnings compared to Thursday, with an estimated net of ₹3 Cr on Friday.
“Maidaan” depicts the story of Syed Abdul Rahim, a prominent personality in Indian football. The film earned ₹7.1 crore on its opening day (including Wednesday’s paid preview collections) but saw a drop to ₹3 crore on the second day. Maidaan is projected to have a 4-day weekend collection of 12-13 crore, which is relatively low. It is unlikely that the film will surpass 30 crores in its lifetime. With a budget exceeding 200 crores, the film’s current box office performance suggests that it may become one of the biggest failures in Indian cinema. Even the audience who liked the film were shocked to see such dismal numbers for Maidaan and expressed their disappointment on social media.
Both “BMCM” and “Maidaan” experienced underwhelming Eid debuts, unlike Salman Khan’s previous films, which enjoyed huge openings during the festival. “Bharat,” “Sultan,” “Race 3,” and “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan” (on Day 1) all performed exceptionally well. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s “Chennai Express” succeeded greatly on Eid.
