Following the commercial and critical success of the romantic drama Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), Roshan expressed a strong desire to collaborate with his son Hrithik on a new project. At the 2nd IIFA Awards held in June 2001, he was honored with the Best Director award for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. During this event, he announced his upcoming second film, a project that would become a significant part of Indian cinema. The film’s score and soundtrack were composed by his brother, Rajesh Roshan. American artists Craig Mumma and Mark Clobe contributed ₹4 crore towards the film’s visual effects, a testament to the film’s global appeal. Koi… Mil Gaya served as the inaugural installment of the Krrish franchise, premiering on August 8, 2003. The film was produced with a budget of ₹35 crore.
