Emergency, the upcoming political drama starring and directed by Kangana Ranauat, was scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024. However, the latest news is that the film has been postponed due to pending CBFC clearance. The real reason behind the film’s delay is the controversy around it. Kangana Ranaut stated that the film’s censorship was stopped because CBFC members received threats.

Kangana took to her Twitter and said that there are so many rumors being spread about the film’s censorship formalities. According to Kangana, the fillm, Emergency, was cleared for the certification, but it was stopped because the Censor Board members received death threats. She added that the film’s team is under pressure to not show the assassination of Indira Gandhi and scenes of Punjab riots. The controversy around Emergency started since the film’s trailer was released. The trailer showed Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, a Khalistani leader, promising Indira Gandhi’s party for a separate Sikh state. This triggered many people. Shiromani Akali Dal in Delhi sent a legal notice to the CBFC to stop the film because it portrays Sikhs wrongly. Meanwhile, the closed sources of CBFC state that they do not have any connection with the film’s release date. According to the sources, a film’s certification can take time depending on the sensitive nature of it. So, if a film’s team announces the release date prior to censor certification, the CBFC cannot do anything about it.

Emergency is a political drama that has Indira Gandhi, former Indian Prime Minister, as its central character. Kangana appears in the film as the late Indira Gandhi, while Shreyas Talpade as former Prime Minister Atal Bijari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher as Jayaarakash Narayan, Mahima Chaudhry as cultural activist and Indira Gandhi’s confidante Pupul Jayakar, and Milind Soman as Filed Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
