Kamal Haasan’s Indian to have a Re-Release

Re-releasing classic hits has become prevalent in Tamil Nadu cinemas. Industry insiders have revealed an intention to organize a grand re-release of the legendary film “Indian,” starring Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan. This re-release is said to be scheduled for the latter part of May. Producers can interpret This strategic move as an endeavor to revive audience enthusiasm in anticipation of the release of “Indian 2.”

It is widely known that Indian 2 is set to be released in June, although the filmmakers have yet to confirm the exact date of its release. The follow-up to the highly successful 1996 film encountered numerous challenges throughout its lengthy production. Production for the movie began in 2019 but was abruptly halted in February 2020 following a devastating accident on set, resulting in the tragic loss of three crew members. The pandemic outbreak and the disagreement between director Shankar and the film’s producers, Lyca Productions, caused a delay in the production of Indian 2. However, Shankar later resumed filming in 2022, with Red Giant Movies stepping in as a new producer. It has been reported that Shankar has successfully filmed Indian 3 during the second production phase.

Indian was a captivating political thriller that propelled Shankar to fame in the Indian film industry early in his directorial journey. Featuring Kamal Haasan in two distinct roles, the movie showcases the conflicting beliefs of a virtuous vigilante and a corrupt official. The storyline, revolving around the battle against corruption and injustice, is enhanced by its gripping action scenes and insightful dialogues. Despite being available for streaming, the possibility of a theatrical re-release remains high. The film can currently be streamed on Aha Tamil and OTTplay Premium. With major Tamil releases postponed until the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections, the trend of re-releasing films has proven beneficial for cinemas in Tamil Nadu. Ghilli has set a new record with its remarkable box office performance, leaving us curious to see if Indian can achieve similar success.
