Kalki Trailer: Can Nag Ashwin live up to the expectations?

It is widely known that Pan Indian Star Prabhas and young, talented director Nag Ashwin collaborated for the first time on Kalki 2898 AD. The film’s trailer is slated to be released today evening, and everyone’s eyes are on it. Director Nag Ashwin has received good appreciation for his debut film, Evade Subramanyam, and he surprised one and all with his next, Mahanati, the biopic of the late Savitri. Now, he ventures into uncharted territory with Kalki 2898 AD, a science fiction movie that combines A-list celebrities, state-of-the-art technology, and a distinctively Indian storyline.

Set in a dystopian future, the film presents a level of world-building typically associated with Hollywood blockbusters like Star Wars, Blade Runner, or Dune. What sets it apart is its deep-rooted connection to Indian mythology: Kalki, a reference to the Kali Yuga period, brings to the forefront the cursed immortal Ashwatthama and Kalki, the tenth incarnation of Vishnu, adding a unique Indian flavor to the narrative. The movie features a stellar cast, with Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. Keerthy Suresh lends her voice to Bujji, an AI bot controlling a futuristic car. The film also promises exciting cameo appearances from Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, SS Rajamouli, and Ram Gopal Varma. Nag Ashwin, a skilled screenplay writer, has demonstrated his talent in works like Evade Subramanyam and Mahanati, and it will be interesting to see how he weaves these diverse talents into the fabric of Kalki 2898 AD.

The inclusion of Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha’s cameos in Mahanati was not necessary for the storytelling. However, Nag Ashwin decided to incorporate their characters to enhance the overall engagement and intrigue of the film. It will be fascinating to observe how he will utilize these stars’ cameos and integrate them into the screenplay of Kalki 2898 AD.
