Kalki 2898 AD: Mohanlal was in Consideration for this role in Prabhas – Nag Ashwin’s Film

The futuristic sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD established Prabhas as the most dependable leading man in the Telugu film industry. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the movie delves into a unique concept and showcases a talented ensemble of Indian cinema actors, including the legendary superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. Interestingly, recent reports suggest that the acclaimed Malayalam actor Mohanlal was initially considered for a significant role in Kalki 2898 AD.

During a recent conversation with Sillymonks Mollywood YouTube channel, Kalki 2898 AD storyboard artist Venugopal shared intriguing insights about the film’s casting process. According to the artist, who collaborated closely with director Nag Ashwin and his team for an extended period, Mohanlal was initially in the running for the beloved character Supreme Yaskin, portrayed by Kamal Haasan in the film. Venugopal disclosed that, in the early stages, the L2 Empuraan actor was being considered for the role alongside Ulaganayagan. During the team’s deliberation on casting choices, Nag Ashwin and his team intended to reach out to Mohanlal to portray Supreme Yaskin in case Kamal Haasan declined the role, which was initially his. Nevertheless, the Vikram actor eventually accepted the role, leading to a successful outcome. However, the recent disclosure by the Kalki 2898 AD storyboard artist has somewhat disheartened Mohanlal’s fans, who were anticipating the superstar to embrace a significant career challenge.

According to the latest information, director Nag Ashwin intends to dedicate more than four months exclusively to finalizing the script for Kalki 2, also known as the forthcoming sequel, Kalki 2898 AD. The filmmaker, buoyed by the significant box office success of the first installment, will commence extensive pre-production for the sequel only after the script for the remaining segments is completed. Kamal Haasan is poised to take on the role of the primary antagonist, Supreme Yaskin. At the same time, Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and leading actress Deepika Padukone are set to reprise their respective characters.
