Director Nag Ashwin’s upcoming film, Kalki 2898 AD, will be released in cinemas on June 27. This highly anticipated movie, which has been in production for several years, will finally be unveiled to the audience. Featuring a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, Anna Ben, Disha Patani, and more, the film is described as a sci-fi dystopian futuristic action drama with its foundation in Hindu mythology Mahabharat. It is widely known that Big B plays the character of Ashwatthama in the movie.
According to Hindu mythology, Ashwatthama is a figure from the epic Mahabharata and the son of Drona, the teacher of the Kauravas and the Pandava cousin clans who ultimately engaged in the Kurukshetra War. Ashwatthama, fighting on the side of the Kauravas, tried to kill Uttara’s unborn child during the battle. This action resulted in Lord Krishna cursing Ashwatthama with immortality. It is believed that Ashwatthama possessed a gem on his forehead that granted him powers beyond those of humans and protected him from common human issues such as hunger, thirst, fatigue, aging, and diseases. Upon learning that the Pandavas had deceived his father, Drona, into thinking that his son had been killed during the war, causing him to lose his will to fight, Ashwatthama became furious. He then attempted to use the Brahmastra weapon to kill Uttara’s unborn child, aiming to put an end to the Pandavas’ lineage. However, Lord Krishna intervened and saved the fetus, cursing Ashwatthama and demanding that he surrender his gem. As a result of the curse, Ashwatthama was condemned to wander the forests until the end of the Kali Yuga, with blood and pus continuously flowing from his forehead.
Claims and unclarified instances of people spotting Ashwatthama in the modern age persist. Despite the lack of solidified proof, the myth has provided inspiration for Kalki 2898 AD. Acting as the connecting link between Dvapara Yuga and Kali Yuga, Ashwatthama is believed to be alive and seeking penance for his mistakes. In Kalki 2898 AD, Amitabh Bachchan portrays the role of Ashwatthama, bridging the gap between Hindu mythology and Nag Ashwin’s futuristic film. Fans are engaging in lively discussions about the film on various social media platforms. There is a group of fans who strongly believe that Prabhas is not portraying Kalki. They argue that the title character is actually the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu, and the trailers suggest that Prabhas is portraying Bhairava instead of Kalki.
