Jio Studios shocks the unit of Pon Ondru Kanden

At a time when there are numerous discussions on early OTT releases across all Indian film industries, and attempts are being made to draw the audience to the theaters, the giant company Jio Studios has shocked the unit of Pon Ondru Kanden by deciding to release the film directly on Television, not in theaters or OTT. This has also led to a minor controversy on social media, with the film’s cast and makers getting confused over the decision of Jio Studios.

The director, V Priya, and lead actors Vasanth Ravi, Ashok Selvan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi were taken aback when they learned that the Tamil film “Pon Ondru Kanden” would be released directly on Colors Tamil channel instead of in theaters. Even Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film’s composer and co-producer, was not informed about this decision. Vasanth Ravi, known for his role as Rajini’s son in Jailer, expressed his surprise and disappointment on social media, criticizing Jio Studios for lacking communication with the cast and crew who had put much effort into the film. He emphasized the importance of keeping the team informed about such decisions. While the producer has the authority over business decisions, Ravi stressed the necessity of telling the artists involved.

Jio Studios has yet to respond to Ravi’s statement. This surprising turn of events signifies a deviation from the conventional release strategy for Tamil films, as it chooses television instead of theaters or OTT platforms. Pon Ondru Kanden, directed by V Priya, showcases Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vasanth Ravi in prominent roles, accompanied by the musical brilliance of Yuvan Shankar Raja.
