Jigra: Alia Bhatt’s upcoming film inspired by this old Bollywood Film?

Alia Bhatt’s upcoming film Jigra has attracted a lot of attention from audiences. Starring Vedang Raina as Alia’s brother, this action drama’s teaser trailer was released a few years ago and received a stunning response. The netizens are in awe of the teaser’s impact, and they are going gaga over Alia’s stunning act. Meanwhile, the buzz around the inspiration for Jigra is doing the rounds in the industry circles.

Reportedly, Alia’s Jigra has been inspired by Gumrah (1993), starring Sanjay Dutt. The Bollywood media circles are stating that Jigra is an adaptation of Gumrah, which had Sridevi and Rahul Roy in crucial roles alongside Sanjay Dutt as the lead. Gumrah tells the story of a man who goes to the greatest lengths to save his lover, who got imprisoned in a foreign country. Jigra is also based on similar lines, but there is a change of characters here. According to the closed sources, the makers of Jigra made some changes to Gumrah’s story. Unlike Gumrah, here a girl saves the boy, and they are not lovers but brothers and sisters. Interestingly, the production house for both films is the same, Dharma Productions.

Jigra was announced in September 2023. As said above, Karan Johar has backed this film under his Dharma Productions along with Eternal Sunshine Productions and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film will be released in theaters on October 11, 2024.
