Jaahnvi’s Role in Devara: Hype vs Reality

Jaahnvi Kapoor, the reputed Bollywood actress, recently made her South Indian debut in the pan-India project Devara, starring alongside Jr NTR. Upon the announcement and pre-release buzz, driven by promotional cuts, expectations were high, especially regarding Jaahnvi’s portrayal of the character Thangam. Fans anticipated a standout performance. However, did she live up to the hype?

Well, Devara turned out to be a disappointing ride for Jaahnvi—at least in this first part of the franchise. Her presence is only introduced after the halfway mark, and despite the delayed appearance, her screen time is limited to around 20 minutes. Unfortunately, her role offers little substance, confined mostly to glamour. The love story involving her character feels more like an unnecessary comedic diversion, lacking the emotional depth seen in characters like Samantha in Rangasthalam or Rashmika in Pushpa.

Despite her Bollywood debut and being the daughter of the iconic Sridevi—who was cherished by South Indian audiences—Jaahnvi’s introduction to Tollywood has fallen flat. Thangam’s character left little impact, aside from the song “Chuttamalle,” which became a blockbuster both before and after the film’s release.
