Kamal Haasan recently dropped an exciting bombshell for his fans: Indian 2 is all set to storm the theaters in July. The official word from the producers has confirmed that the release date for this high-octane vigilante action thriller, helmed by the masterful Shankar, is July 12, 2024. The original film, Indian (1996), was a monumental hit in Tamil cinema and also made a significant impact in Telugu (Bharatheeyudu) and Hindi (Hindustani), raking in impressive box office numbers. The sequel, Indian 2, is a hotly anticipated affair, especially after the first film’s triumph in the Hindi market with a staggering 2 crore viewers. With its unique blend of action, drama, and social commentary, Indian 2 promises to be a cinematic experience like no other.
On July 12th, two more major Hindi films are set to be released. Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira and John Abraham’s Vedaa will be hitting the screens. Indian 2 does not have much craze as of now as the film’s promotions have not started yet; except for its recall value, the film’s unit did not hint at the content apart from a small teaser and a few handfuls of posters. The opening-day collections are uncertain due to this recall factor. Moreover, it is now clashing with two big Bollywood films, which will further harm its box office prospects.
Akshay Kumar is currently facing a challenging phase in his career as his movies only managed to collect 2 crore on the first day. Additionally, Sarfira is a remake of Sudha Kongara’s OTT film Soorarai Pottru. This might lead the makers of Indian 2 to believe that it won’t be a significant competition. John Abraham’s Vedaa is rumored to be a remake of Ajith’s Vedaalam (Bholaa Shankar), although this has not been confirmed. Despite the three-way clash, Indian 2 is expected to have the strongest opening in Hindi. The promotional activities are set to begin on May 22 with the release of the first single in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
