Indian 2 faces legal troubles from the Multiplex Association of India

It looks like problems are not going to leave Shankar and Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2. It is widely known that Indian 2 was released in theaters worldwide in this year’s July and became a colossal failure at the box office. The film was a shocking setback for Shankar, and audiences were completely disappointed with the pathetic content in the film. Made with a budget of over 300 crores, the film could only gather 150 crores worldwide and brought severe losses to the makers. As if it were not enough, the film has received legal notice from MAI (Multiplex Association of India).

According to the reports, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) sent a legal notice to the Indian 2 team. The complaint was that the film disobeyed the rule of an 8-week OTT window. MAI has a set of rules for the theatrical release of Hindi films. Regularly, the Hindi films follow the rule of an 8-week OTT window, which means a film will land on the digital field only after eight weeks after its theatrical release. However, the Kamal Haasan starrer broke the rule and arrived on OTT within four weeks of its theatrical release. Indian 2 was released in theaters on July 12, and it made its OTT debut (Netflix) on August 9 in all versions, including Hindi. This came as a shock for MAI, because as per the norms, Hindustani 2, the Hindi version of Indian 2, should have made its digital debut on September 6.

Reportedly, the Multiplex Association of India has strictly reminded the Indian 2 producers to follow the 8-week OTT window rule. Because if one producer gets away after flouting the rules, then everyone joins the same path. We need to wait and see what consequences the makers of Indian 2 will face because of this rule breach of OTT Window.
