Bollywood media and trade circles were excited about this Independence Day battle at the box office between Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, and John Abraham’s Vedaa. Many expected it to be a tight clash, but Stree 2 turns out to be the favorite of audiences, and it has left its competitors far behind in the ticket sales.
Stree 2 has sold 2.03 Lakh tickets in the top 3 national chains—PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis — for Independence Day until last night. In PVR Inox, the film sold 1.60 Lakh tickets and in Cinepolis screens, it sold 43K tickets.
So, according to the ticket booking stats, Stree 2 is leading by a massive margin. The advance sales could be up to 8–10 times higher than those of Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein. Stree 2 is expected to be released in over 50% of the screens in multiplexes on August 15th. This strong demand for Stree 2, coupled with its holiday release, sets it as the number one choice for moviegoers and exhibitors alike. The film’s anticipation among the audience is further boosted by its genre—a horror-comedy sequel—which has proven popular with audiences.
