Emma Watson is reportedly opposed to Warner Bros’ plans to reboot the Harry Potter film franchise into a 7 season television series. Insiders claim that getting Watson back to reprise her iconic role as Hermione Granger has been difficult, especially given author J.K. Rowling’s controversial comments.
Jeff Sneider, an entertainment reporter, stated that Watson is the “toughest one to get back” for a reboot due to her issues with Rowling. He claims Warner Bros plans to move forward with adapting Harry Potter and the Cursed Child first, before rebooting the entire franchise. Even though Rowling is indispensable to the project, Watson’s participation remains uncertain.
The core issue seems to stem from Rowling’s anti-trans tweets in 2020, which caused a permanent rift with Watson. Watson has been an outspoken supporter of trans rights. While a Harry Potter reboot appears imminent at some point, it remains to be seen whether Watson can reconcile her differences with Rowling in order to reprise her breakthrough role. Her participation would add needed star power, but producers seem willing to move forward even if key original stars don’t return
