Story:

Ratnam (Vishwak Sen) is a small time goon and an ambitious guy. He carries out various activities to become powerful, including petty thefts and gang wars. The plot of the movie revolves around Ratnam’s personal and professional journey progresses, which also involves conflicts with his family and gang members.

Performances:

Vishwak Sen gets a larger-than-life role with Ratnam and he makes the most use of it. If only his character was better etched, his performance could have had a better impact. Neha Shetty, Anjali were fine. Goparaju Ramana did not suit to his character. Hyper Aadhi, Praveen, and others were alright.

Analysis:

As Gangs Of Godavari opens, one expects an exhilarating journey as the character of Ratnam slowly rises through its ranks. The setting and events are immediately captivating and leave the audiences eagerly anticipating the protagonist’s journey. However, the problem starts afterward. Ratnam’s rise to power is not at all interesting. Though the backdrop was different, the proceedings lack the intrigue. The first half holds the interest somehow, but the second half falls flat as the drama never was able to leave a lasting impression.

Positives:

Vishwak Sen’s performance is the big plus point for the film. The action sequences in the first half are well choreographed. The twist near the climax was good.

Negatives:

Gangs of Godavari’s story has a big span. The narrative progresses from one plot point to another, encompassing a vast character arc of the hero. Although the arc leaves a great impression, there’s a lack of depth. Neither the drama between Ratnam and Bujji impresses, nor the conflict between him and his gang members was properly established. The taking was so plain that the audiences never feel his emotions or pain.

Last Line: Gangs of Godavari – A missed opportunity

Note:* It’s a personal opinion. It will not be based on it’s film run or the talk on the other side.
