Fighter, the action-packed aerial drama featuring Hrithik Roshan and directed by Siddharth Anand, was released during the Republic Day weekend. It gathered a staggering ₹115 crore, with an impressive 41 crores on Republic Day itself. However, the film experienced a significant decline in numbers the following weekdays, suggesting a weaker hold in mass centers than urban audiences. By the end of the first extended week, the film collected a decent but somewhat underwhelming total of 140 crores.
Interestingly, the second weekend brought a glimmer of hope as Fighter’s collections surged to double digits on both Saturday and Sunday. On the weekdays, the film ended at around or below 5 Crores. While the collections can be said to be stable for a second weekend, we can see that the trend of the film is high on weekends and flat on weekdays. The film’s net domestic box office collections for 12 days stand at Rs 171 Crores, which is respectable but not exceptional considering the film’s hype and scale.
Based on the current trend, trade estimates predict that Fighter’s final collections will fall within the Rs 200-220 crore range, falling short of the initial expectations of surpassing ₹500 crore figure.
The lack of mass appeal due to the film’s Air Force backdrop and deviated marketing and execution have resulted in Fighter’s underwhelming box office performance. However, the film showed a decent recovery over the second week, and let’s hope it continues to do the same over another week.
