Fahadh Faasil talks about Dhoomam

The collaboration between Lucia and U-Turn maker Pawan Kumar and Hombale Films for a project featuring Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil created a significant buzz, resulting in high anticipation for the film. However, all the excitement surrounding the project quickly dissipated after reports from the first show surfaced. The film received widespread criticism, despite Fahadh’s commendable performance. In a rare occurrence, the actor has now shared his thoughts on the reasons behind the film’s failure.

During a recent interview, the actor, who is currently enjoying the triumph of his latest film, Aavesham, expressed his opinion on Dhoomam. He stated that the issue with Dhoomam lied in its subject matter, emphasizing that certain concepts may sound promising but fail to deliver onscreen. Fahadh further conveyed that there are certain ideas that should not be adapted into films, and Dhoomam happened to be one of them. Fahadh portrayed a successful executive in the movie, working for a tobacco company, who becomes entangled in a tale of revenge related to the products he had been promoting vigorously. Although it seemed at first that the film aimed to shed light on the dangers of smoking, both active and passive, and discourage individuals from picking up the habit, Fahadh admitted that, being a smoker himself, he felt it was not his place to advise others against it.

He further stated that the focus was not on smoking versus non-smoking, but rather on the connection between major corporations, where a tobacco company was predominantly owned by a life insurance firm. Unfortunately, this message was not effectively communicated, and Dhoomam was perceived as a revenge thriller. The movie, released in Malayalam and Kannada, featured Achyuth Kumar, Roshan Mathew, Aparna Balamurali, and other talented actors.
