Exciting Clash at Tamil Cinema on this Independence Day

Tamil cinema has been experiencing a dry spell for more than six months, but there is hope on the horizon as some highly anticipated films are finally getting release dates. Raayan, starring Dhanush, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, while the industry is gearing up for a clash of three films on August 15, Independence Day. Thangalaan by Vikram and Pa Ranjith, Andhagan by Prashanth, and Raghu Thatha by Keerthy Suresh are all set to be released on the same day.

Thangalaan, a forthcoming period action film by Pa Ranjith, features Vikram in the lead role alongside Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, and others. The movie is centered around the origins of Kolar Gold Fields. Backed by Studio Green, Jio Studios, and Neelam Productions, the film’s music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar. The technical team includes Tamil Praba as the co-writer and Kishor Kumar as the cinematographer. Selva RK has handled the editing for Thangalaan. Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical rights for the film, which will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu.

Andhagan is a Tamil adaptation of the highly praised Hindi movie Andhadhun. Prashanth takes on the lead role in this dark comedy, supported by a talented cast including Simran, Priya Anand, Karthik Muthuraman, Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, Urvasi, KS Ravikumar, Vanitha Vijaykumar, Leela Samson, Poovaiyar, Manobala, and others. The story follows a visually impaired pianist who becomes a crucial witness to a murder carried out by a wealthy housewife. Andhagan is helmed by Prashanth’s father and renowned actor Thiagarajan.

Raghu Thatha, starring Keerthy Suresh, is anticipated to be a comedy film. Produced by Hombale Films, known for successful Kannada movies like KGF and Salaar, this will mark their first venture into Tamil cinema. Directed and written by Suman Kumar, the film features a talented cast, including MS Bhaskar, Ravindra Vijay, Devadarshni, Jayakumar, Rajeev Ravindranathan, Anandsami, Rajesh Balachandran, Ismath Banu, Aadhira Pandilakshmi, Janaki, and Chu Khoy Sheng. KS Mippu, Mukesh, and Manoj Kumar Kalaivanan are also part of the film.
