EC seeks report on Bhuvaneswari tour

The Election Commission on Saturday directed the Annamayya district Collector to give a detailed report on the tour of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s wife Nara Bhuvaneswari in the district. The Election Commission sought the report from the district collector in 24 hours.

The Election Commission responded to the complaint given by YSR Congress leader Lella Appi Reddy to the commission on March 21. He alleged that Bhuavaneswari was giving cheques of Rs 3 lakh to some families during her tour.

Appi Reddy said that Bhuvaneswari’s tour was a clear violation of the model code of conduct. Giving cheques to the people when the model code was in force was also a clear violation of the code, he said.

Appi Reddy sought action against Bhuvaneswari and wanted the Election Commission to stop her from further proceeding on the tour. Bhuvaneswari had been touring the state in the name of Nijam Gelavali against the arrest of her husband Chandrababu Naidu.

As part of her tour, she had been giving a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the family members of those who died of cardiac arrest following Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest. She has covered several districts so far and is currently touring the Rayalaseema region.

The district Collector was asked to give a detailed report on her tour in the district and her activities during the tour. It is to be seen what report that the district collector would give and what action that the Election Commission would take against Bhuvaneswari in the days to come.
