After a smashing hit with Jailer, Superstar Rajinikanth’s next film, Vettaiyan, has been a mixed bag. While it continues its successful run in its original Tamil version, the reception has been slightly different for the other versions, Telugu and Hindi. The Hindi version has largely been ignored, while the Telugu version has received a mixed response.
Vettaiyan: The Hunter Telugu version initially opened with dull morning shows but gained traction during the festive season. However, it stumbled post-holidays, prompting the makers to reduce ticket prices to make the film more accessible to the audience; unfortunately, this strategy did not yield the desired results.
On a positive note, director TJ Gnanavel recently revealed plans for a prequel to Vettaiyan: The Hunter. This prequel aims to explore the characterization of Rajinikanth’s role as an encounter specialist and how he eventually rose to that position. The current film showcased an investigation series with limited scope for heroism, which worked only in parts. Fans believe that the prequel could certainly gain momentum. Let’s hope the project receives the green light.
