Hombale Films, the production company responsible for director Pawan Kumar’s Dhoomam, celebrated World No Tobacco Day on May 31 by offering the Fahadh Faasil-led film to viewers at no cost. The original Malayalam version of the movie was uploaded on the production house’s official YouTube channel, garnering an impressive 1.7 million views so far.
Dhoomam initially struggled to secure a spot on the mainstream platforms, eventually making its way to Apple TV+ on a TVOD basis. Subsequently, the Kannada-dubbed edition of the movie is now available on Hombale Films’ YouTube channel. If you missed the opportunity to watch the film in cinemas and do not possess an Apple TV+ subscription, you can now enjoy it for free. Fahadh expressed his views on the theatrical failure of Dhoomam, stating that while it had a promising concept, its execution was flawed. He even suggested that the story should not have been adapted into a film despite its initial appeal on paper. Fahadh portrayed the role of a sales executive for a tobacco company in the movie. However, his character becomes entangled in a tale of revenge and is compelled to complete a series of tasks to save his wife from a life-threatening situation. Interestingly, his wife has an explosive device implanted in her throat, which will detonate and cause her demise if Fahadh fails to fulfill his part of the deal and if she doesn’t smoke a cigarette every few minutes. The underlying message of the film Dhoomam revolves around the detrimental effects of both active and passive smoking. Nevertheless, Fahadh, being a smoker himself, believed he was not able to preach about it.
It is worth mentioning that Dhoomam was initially conceived as a Kannada film by Pawan over a decade ago, but unfortunately, it couldn’t be made at that time due to a lack of support. Nevertheless, due to the unfortunate passing of Puneeth Rajkumar, his film collaboration with Hombale Films, titled Dvitva, did not come to fruition. Consequently, the production company approached him for a script that would be suitable for Fahadh, and he presented them with Dhoomam.
