Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been hit with a major setback ahead of the upcoming IPL season as Devon Conway is set to be sidelined until May due to a thumb injury. The New Zealand batsman, who played a pivotal role in CSK’s title-winning campaign last year and was named the player of the match in the final, will undergo surgery on his left thumb this week.
The injury occurred during the T20I series against Australia, and Conway also missed the opening Test match due to the same issue. The recovery period is expected to be at least eight weeks, which means Conway is likely to miss a significant portion of the IPL season, if not the entire tournament.
Conway’s absence will be keenly felt by CSK, as he was a key figure in their batting lineup and played some crucial innings last season. His ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed made him a valuable asset to the team.
In his absence, CSK will have to rely on other players to step up and fill the void left by Conway. The likes of Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Robin Uthappa will need to take on more responsibility in the batting department to ensure that CSK remain competitive in the tournament.
While Conway’s injury is undoubtedly a blow to CSK, it also presents an opportunity for other players to showcase their talent and make a name for themselves on the big stage.
