Allu Arjun, the stylish and versatile actor of Telugu cinema, was on cloud nine after delivering a string of successful films like Desamuduru, Parugu, and Aarya 2. His charismatic presence and stellar performances had cemented his position as one of the top actors in the industry. However, his much-anticipated collaboration with director Gunasekhar for the film Varudu turned out to be a major setback at the box office.
Before its release, Varudu was touted to be the next big thing in Telugu cinema, generating immense buzz and anticipation among audiences. However, upon its release, the film failed to live up to expectations, shocking both critics and fans alike. Its unconventional storyline and over-the-top action sequences, coupled with unnecessary grandeur in set designs, proved to be a headache for the producers.
Despite Varudu’s dismal performance at the box office, one silver lining emerged from the film – the portrayal of the antagonist role by Aarya. While Aarya received praise from netizens for his performance, it’s interesting to note that he wasn’t the initial choice for the role. Actor Vishal recently disclosed during promotions for his upcoming film Rathnam that he was originally supposed to play the antagonist in Varudu. However, due to scheduling conflicts, he had to step back from the project. This revelation has sparked speculation among fans about whether Vishal’s presence could have altered the film’s fate, but it’s clear that the fundamental issues with the story and narration would have remained unchanged.
