British director Alex Garland’s action-packed thriller Civil War will be released on Amazon Prime Video on June 21st. The film, which premiered in theaters in April, will also be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
A24’s Civil War, a commercial hit, is situated in the near future when America is engulfed in a second Civil War. The plot follows a group of journalists, consisting of two photojournalists and two reporters, as they embark on a journey from New York City to Washington, DC, amidst a nationwide conflict between a dictatorial federal regime and local factions. Their objective is to secure an interview with the President before insurgents seize control of the capital. However, what was supposed to be a brief trip turns into a lengthy and perilous expedition as they encounter war-ravaged regions and must navigate through small, potentially hazardous towns.
Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny portray the photojournalists in the film, with Wagner Moura and Stephen McKinley Henderson playing the reporters aiming to interview the President, portrayed by Nick Offerman. Jesse Plemmons, Dunst’s husband, is also part of the cast, which includes Sonoya Mizuno, Jefferson White, Nelson Lee, Jin Ha, Karl Glusman, Juani Feliz, Jonica T Gibbs, and others. The film Civil War received favorable reviews upon its release and reportedly grossed $115 million globally, with approximately half of the earnings coming from international markets. Despite its heavy subject matter, critics praised the movie for being intense, immersive, and thought-provoking. Actress Dunst even mentioned struggling with PTSD after filming, leading to a deep feeling of emptiness.
