Director John Glady’s Tamil film Byri is poised to debut on the OTT platform. This highly acclaimed movie, which has garnered rave reviews from viewers, will soon be accessible for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. While the exact release date is yet to be disclosed, Byri will quickly be available on the prominent OTT platform.
Byri is a film set in the region of Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu. It revolves around the tradition of pigeon racing that has been passed down through generations. The story follows Rajalingam (Syed Majeed), who aspires to compete and emerge victorious in the pigeon race. Another key character is Suyambu (Vinu Lawrence), a prominent local personality who is also involved in the pigeon racing scene. Both Rajalingam and Suyambu share the common dream of becoming members of a prestigious pigeon club. Nevertheless, tensions escalate when Rajalingam exposes Suyambu’s illicit activities during the race. This results in complexities arising in Rajalingam’s life—the unfolding events after that are pivotal to the narrative. Byri draws inspiration from previous Tamil rural sports drama movies like Vetri Maaran’s Aadukalam and also from Malayalam films such as Angamaly Diaries.
Despite garnering audience praise, Byri did not perform strongly at the box office. Despite being made on a budget of Rs 3 crore, it only managed to earn less than Rs 1 crore in cinemas. The upcoming OTT premiere is anticipated to attract a larger viewership. Byri was written and directed by John Glady, who also has a role in the film. The cast also features Syed Majeed, Meghana Ellen, and Viji Sekar.
