This Dasara weekend saw multiple releases across languages. Sadly, except for Vettaiyan, none of the films are headed in the direction of a positive result. Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan was released in theaters on October 10, 2024, and it received decent reviews. The first-day numbers are decent, not great, but the best thing for the film is the numbers are consistent from the next day, and the film is poised to break even if it maintains even the 50-60% hold on Monday.
Besides Vettaiyan, the other films released this Dussehra weekend are Jigra, Vicky Vidya Wala Video, Maa Nanna Superhero, Viswam, and Janaka Aithe Ganaka. Sudheer Babu’s Maa Nanna Superhero washed out on the first day itself as it got zero share. Gopichand and Srinu Vaitla’s Viswam could not gather big numbers on its first day, but the film registered good numbers on the festival day, and it is expected to repeat the same today as well. Alia Bhatt’s Jigra received mixed reviews, and the collections are not that great either, while Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao, and the latest sensation Triptii Dimri got off to a better response and numbers, but the jump in the numbers yesterday was not that big. Suhas’s Janaka Aithe Ganaka received decent reviews, and it sold 15k tickets in the last 24 hours, and it has to be seen whether it will pick up the required speed.
So, more or less, except for Vettaiayan, all the other films released on Dasara are having a moderate response at the box office. Martin, the Kannada film written by Arjun Aarja, had good publicity before the release, but the film received a disastrous response as many felt that the film was a cheap imitation of the KGF series.
