Bobby Deol’s Gupt Completes 27 Years

It has been 27 years since the release of Gupt, a gripping film with a plot twist at the end. We rarely see the female lead of a Hindi movie portrayed as the primary antagonist. This is in reference to Rajiv Rai’s action thriller Gupt: The Hidden Truth from 1997, which stars Bobby Deol, Kajol, and Manisha Koirala. The film has become iconic in popular culture, showcasing Kajol as a serial killer motivated by love. If you want a thrilling experience, consider revisiting Gupt on Prime Video and ZEE5.

The film showcases supporting roles by Raj Babbar, Om Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Dalip Tahil, Prem Chopra, Sharat Saxena, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Mukesh Rishi, and Priya Tendulkar. Louis Thomas’s 1967 novel Good Children Don’t Kill is the source of inspiration for one of the most exceptional thrillers in Hindi cinema. Sahil (Bobby) in Gupt is determined to prove his innocence after being imprisoned for his stepfather’s (Babbar) death. With the assistance of Sheetal (Manisha), he successfully flees from jail. However, Inspector Udham Singh (Puri) is relentless in his pursuit of apprehending him.

In a previous interview, Kajol discussed her negative role in Gupt, emphasizing the unexpectedness of the film’s plot and character and the shock factor that made it so impactful. She mentioned that taking on the role was a brave decision, and the plot and the character drew her in. Kajol also mentioned that director Rai was anxious about whether she would agree to star in the film, and she and her sister Tanisha were both convinced to take on the project after a two-hour narration. Kajol expressed that the role was just right for her as an actor. When asked about her mother Tanuja’s reaction to her performance in Gupt, Kajol shared that her mother exclaimed, “Oh my, what a film!” Despite her mother’s preference for her performances over her films, Kajol considered it the greatest compliment she could receive.
