AR Rahman and team talk about AaduJeevitham/The Goat Life

At the highly anticipated audio launch of director Blessy and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film Aadujeevitham, also known as The Goat Life, renowned music composer A R Rahman discussed the process of creating the emotionally impactful songs for the survival drama. Rahman was questioned during the event about his decision to wait for lyricist Rafeeq Ahammed to write the lyrics before working on the music, to which he shared his insights.

Rahman reminisced about the process of composing one of the songs, where Blessy requested him to create the music after sending him the lyrics. Rafeeq, the lyricist, provided him with some exquisite words which Rahman used to complete the song. However, he still felt that something was missing, leading them to conceive the ‘Periyone’ song, thus bringing the entire creation together. It is intriguing to note that AR Rahman, rather than Rafeeque Ahmed, was the one who wrote the first two lines of this song.

Lyricist Rafeeq, however, shared insights into the process of writing the songs for the survival drama. “Blessy sir, as we all know, is a perfectionist. So, similar to how Najeeb faced troubles in the film, I also faced many challenges with Blessy sir (laughs). Even during the COVID pandemic, when we couldn’t meet in person to discuss the songs, we still managed to extract his ideas and create the songs he desired,” Rafeeq disclosed. He also mentioned that it was quite a task to pen lyrics in Rahman’s musical style. “Writing lyrics that match Rahman’s style is not an easy feat. We had to capture two contrasting emotions depicted in the film – the loneliness and hopelessness of Najeeb’s life in the deserts and hope. Although I haven’t watched the film yet, I am confident that when it reaches the audience, it will undoubtedly become the next big thing.”
