Anthony Mackie Talks Creativity in the MCU vs. Twisted Metal

Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Sam Wilson/The Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is now taking on the mantle of Captain America in the upcoming series, Captain America: Brave New World. However, Mackie also stars in and produces Peacock’s series, Twisted Metal. In a recent sit-down on the One More Life podcast, Mackie discussed the differences in creativity between the two projects. He highlighted the controlled nature of the MCU, where there are limitations due to the established content created by Stan Lee. In contrast, Twisted Metal offered a more open canvas for creativity, allowing Mackie and the team to build the world as they saw fit.

Mackie further elaborated on the challenges of the Marvel universe, noting that the creative choices must align with the existing comic book content. This limitation restricts the ability to go outside the lines of the established stories. In contrast, Twisted Metal provided more freedom to create and even kill off characters, a creative choice that is much harder to execute within the confines of the MCU.

Despite the challenges, Mackie expressed his enjoyment of working on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, expressing a desire for a second season to continue working with his co-stars, Sebastian Stan and Daniel Brühl, whom he considers friends. However, with their characters not returning for the Captain America film, Mackie acknowledged the bittersweet feeling of not having his friends around anymore.
