Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s dynamic film Animal has garnered significant attention since its debut. The diverse reactions and discussions surrounding themes of toxic masculinity and violence have further enhanced its appeal. Recently, Ram Gopal Varma commended the film, noting how it challenged conventional notions of success and budgetary constraints. Despite the film’s relatively modest or “low-budget” production, the director also supported Vanga in achieving blockbuster success.
Featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the principal role, Animal emerged as one of the most significant blockbusters of 2023. The film concluded the year on a triumphant note, generating substantial success for the lead actors and the supporting cast, including the talented Tripti Dimri. In a recent discussion, Ram Gopal Varma praised the film’s director for overcoming challenges and demonstrating its value through impressive box office figures. He noted the film’s relatively modest budget of approximately 100 crores, especially considering the involvement of a high-profile star like Ranbir Kapoor. Varma also referenced Kapoor’s other major films, such as Brahmastra and Shamshera, which were produced with considerably larger budgets and extensive visual effects. For those unfamiliar, Animal was recognized as a blockbuster after it grossed over 900 crores worldwide, significantly surpassing its estimated 100 crore budget. Sandeep Reddy Vanga demonstrated that critics were mistaken, as ‘Animal’ was produced at a lower cost compared to other films. In contrast, when examining Ranbir Kapoor’s performances in ‘Brahmastra’ or ‘Shamshera,’ it becomes evident that ‘Animal’ had the most modest production budget. Despite being one of the industry’s leading figures, the film outperformed those that were associated with higher production values. This indicates that there are no strict guidelines in the film industry, as stated by RGV in an interview with Galatta Plus.
Commending Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s innovative approach to achieving significant success without relying on special effects or an extravagant budget, the Company director remarked that there are no definitive rules for attaining success, as various films appeal to distinct audiences. In drawing a comparison between the audiences of Animal and Gadar 2, Varma stated, “Different types of audiences will appreciate different kinds of films. I find it hard to believe that the same audience would enjoy both ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘Animal.’ That said, just as one person may prefer a particular dish while another favors something entirely different, it is not a matter of ‘I only consume this type of food.'”
