Despite their 2021 separation, Aamir Khan and ex-wife Kiran Rao are collaborating again on a new film, Laapataa Ladies. The upcoming drama recently previewed at TIFF, marking the former couple’s first joint project since announcing their divorce.
Speaking on the experience of reteaming, Khan and Rao stressed their abiding emotional connection and mutual respect. “We are connected on a human and emotional level, and we will always be,” Khan stated, praising Rao’s talent and acknowledging their bond. Rao concurred that they “enjoy working with each other.”
Their joint separation statement in 2021 expressed a commitment to remaining close as a family and co-parents. This latest endeavor underscores that intention, showcasing their ability to productively work together post-split. As Khan quipped, “Has a doctor said that when a divorce happens, you immediately become enemies?”
Centered on female friendship and empowerment, Laapataa Ladies features rising talents Nitanshi Goel and Pratibha Ranta alongside veteran Ravi Kishan. With screenplay by Sneha Desai, the March 2024 drama will reveal whether Khan and Rao can recreate their creative chemistry.
