Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is asking for the Gajuwaka Assembly constituency for the 2024 general election in alliance with the TDP. He lost the seat in the 2019 general election by a margin of 16,753 votes to the YSR Congress.
Initially, it was thought that Pawan Kalyan would change his constituencies. In 2019 he contested from Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram constituencies. He lost both the seats in the elections by 16,753 votes and 8,357 votes. It was said that Pawan Kalyan would now contest from Pithapuram and Tirupathi.
But sources say that Pawan Kalyan is asking for Gajuwaka once again believing that the TDP ranks would help him win the seat this time. However, the TDP leaders are up in arms against the party top leadership for offering the Gajuwaka seat to the Jana Sena.
The TDP leaders want the seat in alliance and there is stiff resistance from the rank and file for giving the seat to the Jana Sena. Sources said that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had offered the seat to Pawan Kalyan, and it was only on that promise that the Jana Sena chief had attended the closing public meeting of Yuva Galam.
Though the margin in Bhimavaram was considerably less than the Gajuwaka, for some reasons known only to Pawan Kalyan, the Jana Sena chief is asking for Gajuwaka. He is confident of winning the seat this time. Surprisingly, he is not contesting Bhimavaram this time. Instead, he is opting to contest from the Pithapuram Assembly constituency.
The Pithapuram Assembly constituency was won by the YSR Congress in 2019 by a margin of 14,992 votes. It is not going to be easy for Pawan Kalyan to win this seat too even in alliance with the TDP. Though the Kapu voters are considerably large here, the TDP may not transfer its vote to the Jana Sena due to local politics.
It is to be seen what Pawan Kalyan would do in case the TDP refuses to give Gajuwaka!
