Can Devara Stand Tall with Salaar and Kalki 2898?

Making a franchise is a win-or-break moment for the creators. If the first part succeeds, it opens up a profitable zone and makes future projects easier to manage. However, if it fails, it can lead to a drastic decline, becoming a headache for the makers and casting doubt on their intentions to proceed with a sequel.

Following the successful franchises of Baahubali and KGF, the recent releases of potential franchises, such as Prabhas’s Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD, as well as Allu Arjun’s Pushpa, have been successful ventures. Now, it’s up to Jr. NTR’s Devara, slated to hit the screens on September 27th, to prove itself.

In a recent interview, Jr. NTR stated that they had never intended to make two parts for Devara. He explained that the characters had a significant impact on the story. By the time they completed filming the first half, their editor, Sreekar Prasad, noted that the runtime had reached five hours, which shocked them. Following that revelation, he asked director Koratala Siva to complete the story, leading them to realize that the film required two parts. He also expressed his admiration for Saif Ali Khan’s role in the film. When asked whether filming for Devara Part 2 has begun, Jr. NTR mentioned that they had filmed a bit already.

There are instances where potential sequels to announced projects have been stalled due to poor reception of the first part. In some cases, despite filming for the next part starting, the disappointing reception of the initial film has made makers cautious. A recent example is Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra, which faced criticism. Fans hope that Jr. NTR’s Devara Part 1 will succeed and show potential for a sequel, while hoping that Koratala Siva does not repeat the mistakes made with Acharya.
