Sumanth, hailing from the prestigious Akkineni family, is recognized for his nuanced performances in films. His journey in the film industry began with the promising debut “Prema Katha” in 1999. Throughout his career, Sumanth has experienced a mix of successes and setbacks. Notable works in his filmography include “Yuvakudu,” “Satyam,” “Gowri,” “Godavari,” “Golconda High School,” and “Malli Raava.”
Sumanth recently received acclaim for his extended cameo as Brigadier Vishnu Sharma in the blockbuster Telugu film “Sita Ramam,” directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. Despite hailing from a star-studded family background, his surprising and impactful performance in this role garnered attention from netizens. “Sita Ramam” served as a much-needed breakthrough for Sumanth, who had faced consecutive failures at the box office. While he began his career with successful hits, Sumanth encountered challenges in maintaining that momentum, with his last lead role hit being “Malli Raava” in 2017. Despite several attempts, he struggled to deliver engaging stories that resonated with audiences.
After facing setbacks with the box office performances of “Idam Jagath” and “Kapatadhaari,” Sumanth’s next film, “Malli Modalaindi,” took a different route by directly releasing on ZEE5 on February 11, 2022. Despite announcing projects like “Anaganaga Oka Rowdy” and “Aham Reboot,” the lack of updates has left netizens uncertain about their release. Sumanth has now joined forces with director Santhossh Jagarlapudi, known for their collaboration on “Subrahmanyapuram.” Initially titled “Vaarahi” during its pooja ceremony, their new project is now named “Mahendragiri Vaarahi.” The film features Minakshi Goswami as the heroine, with Anup Rubens composing the music. Sumanth shared the first look today, expressing that the shoot is in progress and promising a theatrical release soon.
