What politics Sharmila doing in Andhra Pradesh?

Y S Sharmila had become the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. It was her choice and there is nothing for others to raise any objections. She wanted to be in Congress, and she is now in Congress.

But what sort of politics is she doing these days is a big question. She is targeting Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy personally. She is welcome to target the chief minister on policies. She could criticize the chief minister for not getting the special category status for the state or for not completing the Polavaram Project. She might even criticize the chief minister for not bringing new industries to the state or not giving jobs to the youth.

If she makes criticism on those lines, it is welcome. In fact, that is what an opposition party politician is expected to do. But unfortunately, Sharmila is targeting Jagan Mohan Reddy personally. On the day when she took over the APCC reins, she said that Jagan Mohan Reddy, being a Christian did not respond to the Manipur incidents where 2000 churches were destroyed by the BJP government.

Religion is the personal choice of any individual. He or she is free to practice any religion. But no one has any right to find fault with it. But Sharmila took it as an issue to criticize the chief minister, which is not acceptable for the people.

She also made some personal remarks against Jagan Mohan Reddy at Kakinada meeting. She said that several persons have sacrificed everything to make Jagan Mohan Reddy as the chief minister. She also said that she had been on the roads for two years and was now at a different party.

She further alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy had changed his mind once became the chief minister and several people were turning away from him. This remark was uncalled for from her as it was the personal issue of Jagan Mohan Reddy.

One thing is that she is heading a national party and is in opposition. She should target the ruling national party and not the regional parties. She should question the BJP for not doing anything or ask the BJP what they have done to the nation in the last ten years. If she runs politics on those lines or on issue based, people welcome it. Perhaps who do politics on issues will survive for a long time, while those who target individuals will perish in no time.
