Vikrant Massey delivered an acclaimed performance in last year’s inspirational drama 12th Fail. The film’s associate director Jaskunwar Singh Kohli recently shared that the actor had an intensely emotional experience filming the climax scene.
Kohli revealed that Massey broke down uncontrollably while shooting the scene where his character falls to his knees after passing the IPS exam. Between takes, Massey kept muttering “Main bhi yahan tak bina oxygen support ke pahuncha hoon, woh bhi nange pair.”
After the shot, Massey sat on the floor crying and told co-star Medha Shankar that this story mirrored his own 19-year journey in the film industry. The raw emotions came from a place of having struggled and succeeded in Bollywood without any privileges, just like his character.
Massey earned acclaim for his nuanced performance in 12th Fail, including Filmfare Critics Best Actor. Kohli’s account offers a poignant glimpse into how the actor channeled his own experience to deliver an authentic and impactful performance. It exemplifies Massey’s commitment to his craft and ability to blur the lines between acting and living the character.
