Vidya Balan talks about Animal

The movie Animal, helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, made its theatrical debut on December 2, 2023. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, and Triptii Dimri, this film proved to be a massive success at the box office, raking in over 900 crore. However, upon its release, the movie sparked controversy due to its portrayal of misogyny and toxic masculinity, drawing criticism from both audiences and critics alike. Several months later, actress Vidya Balan shared her perspective on the Ranbir Kapoor-led film.

Vidya Balan, who is currently preparing for the release of her movie Do Aur Do Pyaar, discussed Animal’s success in an interview with Pinkvilla. Reflecting on the film’s achievements, Vidya mentioned that the creators of Animal were bold and confident in their work, which ultimately resulted in its magical impact on the audience. She stated that Animal’s makers were confident in what the viewers desired. While narrating the tale, they did so unapologetically and with conviction, and the outcome speaks for itself. According to Vidya, the audience resonated with it. The actress feels that telling a story without regrets is the current trend. “So I really think its the guise of the time is just telling a story, being unapologetic, that’s what it is,” she said.

Speaking further about how poor execution cannot save great content, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa actress said, “Conviction is the name of the game here. We are told content is king. But you can have great content that is told unconvincingly. Animal is a great example of that.” The movie Animal depicts the tale of a son who admires his father as he grows up, but their bond takes a negative turn over time. The film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for Arjun Reddy, shattered numerous box office records and sparked controversies. On the other hand, Vidya Balan is gearing up for her role in the upcoming movie Do Aur Do Pyaar alongside Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruz, and Sendhil Rammurthy. The release date for the film is scheduled for April 19th.
