Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan failed to capitalize on its second weekend. The cop drama was expected to bring big numbers over the last weekend, but it could not meet the expectations of the trade circles. Released on October 10, 2024, Vettaiyan received decent reviews in Tamil and Telugu. The film also had a great first weekend at the box office.
However, after the first weekend, the film saw a considerable drop in its box office collections, and it never picked up. Though there were some hopes on the second weekend, the film was able to mint okay range numbers. For 11 days, Vettaiayn gathered around 235 crore gross at the worldwide box office, and it looks like the film will end its theatrical run below the mark of 250 crore, and it will be a big failure if the film really ends below that number.
TJ Gnanavel, who directed the critically acclaimed Jai Bhim, starring Surya, made Vettaiyan with Rajinikanth in the lead role and Amitabh Bachchan, Fahaadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Dushara Vijayan in key roles. Though the film’s core plot had the potential, the director somehow failed to strike the balance between the commercial elements and the emotional plot. The fans of Rajinikanth were satisfied with their favorite hero’s performance, but it seems like the film failed to get the required connection with other audiences.
