Director Sreenu Vaitla, once hailed as the king of entertainment for his masterful handling of comedy in his early films, created iconic moments that can be enjoyed for generations. However, like every director, he experienced a downfall, which started most notably with the failure of Aagadu starring Mahesh Babu. Since then, Vaitla has struggled to make a comeback, with his next three films over a span of four years, despite featuring reputed actors, all bombing at the box office.
The main reason for these failures lies in his repetitive approach to commercial cinema, with cringe-worthy elements that have caused frustration among audiences. Vaitla attempted something different with Amar Akbar Anthony starring Ravi Teja, exploring a genre he’s usually not known for, while still incorporating his signature style of entertainment. Unfortunately, this too failed, both critically and commercially, leading to the director’s absence from the industry for five years.
Now, after this long hiatus, Vaitla has teamed up with Gopichand for Viswam. Gopichand, like Vaitla, is also struggling to deliver a box-office hit. The latest teaser hints that the film will follow the same tried-and-tested formula of entertainment that Vaitla is known for. The question remains—will these familiar comedic moments still resonate with today’s audience, or has Vaitla truly reworked his approach and brought something new to the table? The answers will be revealed on October 11th.
