Vaazhai, the small-budget film directed by Mari Selvaram is now streaming on OTT. The film was released in theaters in August and received huge acclaim and good collections at the box office as well. Even though the film did not have a big cast and had children’s characters in the lead roles, the film was well appreciated by audience reviewers and brought more acclaim to the filmmaker.
Vaazhai collected over 40 crore gross at the worldwide box office, 30 of them coming from Tamil Nadu. Everyone doubted whether the film would work as a theatrical release, but it smashed everyone’s expectations. Vaazhai’s digital rights have been bagged by the popular streaming platform, Disney+Hotstar, and it is now available for online streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, and Bengali languages with English subtitles. On August 23, 2024, Vaazhai was released in theaters worldwide. Set against the backdrop of banana plantations in Tirunelveli and focusing on the lives of laborers, the film stars Nikhila Vimal, Ponvel M., Raghul R., Kalaiyarasan, J. Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, and others in crucial roles. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the film’s music.
