Tumbbad is having an exceptional run at the theaters in its re-release. Sohum Shah’s film has shown remarkable consistency and surprised everyone with its long run. The folk horror film also became the highest ever Indian grosser in re-released films, crossing the films like Thalapathy Vijay’s Ghilli, Laila Majnu, and others. Truly, this kind of phenomenal run in a re-release for a small film is a once in a generation kind of feat.
Tumbbad was originally released in 2018. Though it received rave reviews, the film could not get the desired result at the box office and was only able to gather double-digit lifetime net collection at the domestic box office. However, within one week of its re-release, Tumbbad 2 crossed the original release’s lifetime numbers. On its 14th day of re-release, the film collected nearly 1.3 crore net, and the total net collection for two weeks will be around 26 crore net, and the gross collection will be over 30 crores at the domestic box office.
The film tells the story of a man living in Maharashtra who uses a demon called Hastar to get wealth. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, Tumbbad features Sohum Shah, Jyoti Malshe, Dhundiraj Prabhakar, Ronjini Chakraborty, Mohammad Samad, Harish Khanna, and Piyush Kaushik in crucial roles.
