The re-release trend in the Telugu Film Industry has seen impeccable growth over the past couple of years, demonstrating the deep passion of the audience, particularly in the South. Despite classic films being aired multiple times on television and being available on OTT platforms for convenient viewing, fans still flock to theaters to celebrate their love for these films whenever they hit the big screen again in the form of re-releases.
Recently, Mahesh Babu’s Murari and Chiranjeevi’s Indra re-releases received immense response. However, the same enthusiasm is not being reflected in the case of Nagarjuna’s Mass. The reasons behind this are straightforward. Although Mass was a huge hit at the box office during its original release, the planning for its re-release came at an unfortunate time, leading to a moderate response.
So far, all the re-releases have either been scheduled on special occasions or close to weekends. However, in the case of Mass, to avoid clashing with the release of Nani’s new film Saripodhaa Sanivaaram and despite Nagarjuna’s birthday being on August 29th, the re-release shows were planned a day earlier.
It’s not just the occasion; the film also landed in the middle of the week. Additionally, with the lingering excitement from Murari and Indra, Mass is somewhat struggling to fill the special shows. Nagarjuna’s previous re-release was the class film Manmadhudu, which, due to the right timing, received a great response. Unfortunately, this is not working out with Mass. However, fans are eager to witness this iconic film and have planned huge celebrations for the special shows.
